Active Discovery

With Active Discovery, you can schedule WhatsUp Gold to scan your network for new monitors and devices on a regular basis. Newly discovered items are added to the Active Discovery Results report, and WhatsUp Gold notifies you that a new device was found, or a new monitor was found on an existing device. You can then review the report and select the items you want to add to your device list.

From this dialog, you can:

Create a new Active Discovery entry. Click New to add a new Active Discovery entry for your network. The Add Active Discovery Task dialog opens, to walk you through setting up the task.
Modify an entry. Select an entry, then click Edit to make changes to an existing task.
Copy an entry. Select an entry, then click Copy to make an exact copy of an existing task.
Delete an entry. Select an entry, then click Delete to remove the task from the list.
Test an entry. Select an entry, then click Test to perform the task without writing to the Active Discovery Log or Results Report. Success or failure is returned once the scan is complete, along with a list of items that were found. This is just an informational list as items cannot be added to your device list from this dialog.
